Kwara State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Idris, a 30-year-old informant suspected of aiding bandits in their attacks on vigilante groups in the region. His arrest followed an attack on a vigilante team in the Kemanji Village area.
Zagazola Makama was informed by security sources that on April 21, 2025, Mohammed Umar, Commander of the Kemanji Vigilante Group (KVG), reported to the Divisional Headquarters in Kaiama that on April 20, 2025, a team of vigilantes led by him encountered suspected bandits while on foot patrol at the National Park Forest.
During the exchange of gunfire, Yusuf Samba, a 30-year-old member of the vigilante group, was fatally shot. His body was transported to Kemanji for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
In the course of the investigation, police arrested Mohammed Idris, who is accused of providing critical information to the bandits, which allegedly aided their attacks on the vigilante group.
Idris admitted during police interrogation that he had been feeding information to the bandits and had been initiated into the group by one Usman Bibi Bagado, a suspected bandit who remains at large.
Authorities are currently focusing on extracting further information from Idris and are intensifying efforts to track down Usman Bibi Bagado.
