Local Criminal elements operating along the Plateau-Bauchi border have voluntarily released 112 rustled cattle following ongoing peace efforts by the military in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The development occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2026, as part of the ongoing peace process and non-kinetic initiatives by Sector 2, Operation ENDURING PEACE, to curb criminal activities in the area.
According to security sources, the criminals voluntarily released the livestock through the Fulani leader of Kukawa, Alhaji Nuhu, to the Commander, Sector 2, Operation ENDURING PEACE.
The cattle were reportedly rustled by the criminal elements from the Kukawa general area of Kanam LGA.
Following the handover, the recovered livestock were moved to the troops’ location for onward delivery to their rightful owners.
The military described the development as an indication of the positive impact of ongoing non-kinetic efforts aimed at encouraging criminal elements operating in the Joint Operations Area to lay down their arms and embrace the peace initiatives of the GOC, Operation ENDURING PEACE.
The peace process is part of broader efforts to strengthen dialogue, restore trust among communities and reduce criminal activities along the Plateau-Bauchi border.
