One person was killed while another sustained gunshot wounds when fulani bandits attacked two locals at Batem Community, near Wereng Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, according to security sources.
The victims were identified as Bitrus Luka and Kenneth Luka, who were reportedly attacked by the unidentified gunmen under circumstances that were not immediately clear.
Troops of Sector 6, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), responded to a report of the attack and moved towards the location.
However, upon arrival, the troops were reportedly denied access to the scene by members of the community.
Security sources said Bitrus was killed in the attack, while Kenneth sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Due to the restriction of access to the scene, security personnel were only able to obtain a photograph of the injured victim at the hospital.
Troops have remained on heightened alert in the area to prevent any reprisal attack and maintain peace following the incident.
Security agencies are also monitoring developments in the community as efforts continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the perpetrators.
