Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified clearance operations against criminal elements in southern Taraba, dislodging armed terrorists from their hideouts in Zambana Forest and Ayu village, Donga Local Government Area.

Zagazola  reports that the operation, conducted on Nov. 25, followed persistent attacks by suspected armed herdsmen, which had forced residents of the affected communities to desert their homes.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops made contact with the terrorists during the operation and engaged them with “superior firepower”, compelling them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the Zambana Forest.

“The swift and well-coordinated action further weakened the terrorists’ ability to operate within the area,” the source said.

The ongoing operation, according to the source, also enabled displaced farmers to safely evacuate their harvested crops, an activity they had been unable to carry out due to fear of attacks.

Brig.-Gen. Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, who spoke after the operation, reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive kinetic actions across southern Taraba.

He assured that troops would continue to dominate the battlespace to ensure a safe environment for residents, especially as the yuletide season approaches.

“We are determined to maintain pressure on these criminal elements and restore normalcy to all affected communities,” Uwa said.

Zagazola  reports that the clearance operation forms part of Operation Zafin Wuta, the Brigade’s ongoing efforts to rid the area of armed groups responsible for killings, displacement and destruction of farmlands.
