Police repel bandits’ attack on Ukohol community in Benue

The police in Benue on Sunday repelled an attempted attack by suspected armed bandits on Ukohol community in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of the state.

 

Sources said the attack, suspected to be a reprisal following the arrest of one of the bandits on Saturday, was foiled after security operatives mobilised to the community.

 

According to the sources, the Divisional Police Officer in Daudu led a combined team of patrol operatives, including Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Police Mobile Force (PMF), Operation Zenda, and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), to repel the assailants.

 

The sources said that the bandits engaged the police in a gun duel but fled after coming under heavy firepower.

 

The sources said  that all the youths who had been trapped by the bandits were rescued unhurt, except for one person who remained missing as of the time of filing this report.

 

The  sources added that police operatives had launched a bush-combing operation in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects and rescue the missing victim.
