Troops Arrest Farmer After Assault on Herder in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested a farmer following an assault on a herder during a dispute over alleged grazing on farmland in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 6:40 p.m. on July 23, when troops of Sector 5 deployed at Butura responded to a reported altercation between a farmer and a herder in Butura Village.
The sources said the dispute arose after the herder allegedly grazed cattle on the farmer’s cultivated land, leading to a confrontation in which the farmer reportedly attacked and injured the herder.
The troops swiftly intervened, arrested the farmer, and evacuated the injured herder to a medical facility for treatment.
Military sources said the suspect is in custody for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to ensure the incident does not escalate into a wider communal conflict.
They added that the prompt intervention by security forces helped restore calm in the community and reaffirmed Operation Enduring Peace commitment to preventing farmer-herder clashes and maintaining peace across Plateau State.
