Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner in Taraba, Recover AK-47 Rifle and Ammunition

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) operatives, have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended during a joint raid operation conducted at about 9:05 p.m. on May 30 in Kasuwa Doya area of Mutum Biyu.
According to the sources, troops of the 20 Model Battalion, deployed in Gassol, acted on intelligence which led to the arrest of the suspect in connection with the alleged sale of AK-47 ammunition.
The suspect was said to have confessed during preliminary interrogation and further disclosed the location of a concealed weapon in Tukurwa area.
Following the information, a joint team moved to the location at about 6:00 a.m. on May 31, where one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 36 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered.
Security sources said the suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The suspect provided useful information which led to the recovery of additional weapons and ammunition,” a security source said.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting illegal arms trafficking and criminal networks within Taraba State and surrounding regions.
