Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have arrested a suspected informant linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the suspect, identified as Modu Fanni, was arrested at Kuya Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Monguno town on June 21.
The sources disclosed that the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Sector 3 Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) in collaboration with troops of Headquarters Sector 3 OPHK.
According to the sources, the suspect was trailed and apprehended following intelligence gathered from a separate suspect currently undergoing interrogation at the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC).
The sources added that troops subsequently moved to the suspect’s residence to conduct a cordon-and-search operation as part of ongoing investigations.
Further details on the operation were still being compiled at the time of filing this report.
Security authorities said the arrest is part of sustained intelligence-driven efforts to identify and neutralise terrorist informants and collaborators operating within civilian populations and displacement camps in the North-East.
The general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining high morale and operational readiness.
