Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have discovered five additional bodies of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and recovered rifles and a PKT machine gun during exploitation of the terrorists’ escape route following fierce engagements in Borno State.

The discovery brings the reported number of terrorists neutralised in the operations to 48, following the foiling of attacks on military positions in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS), Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, between Oct. 29 and 30, 2026.

Security sources said the additional bodies were found during follow-up exploitation along the terrorists’ withdrawal route after the engagements with troops.

The troops also recovered five rifles and one PKT machine gun during the operation, further highlighting the losses suffered by the terrorists.
The engagements followed attempts by ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters to attack military positions in the two locations, triggering fierce confrontations with troops.

The operation was described as one of the deadliest defeats suffered by ISWAP terrorists in recent engagements, with the discovery of additional bodies and weapons underscoring the scale of casualties inflicted on the group.

The military is expected to continue exploiting the affected areas to recover additional weapons and assess the full extent of the terrorists’ losses.
