Troops foil armed robbery attempt by Mwaghavul Militia after gunmen attack residence in Mangu

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed at Panyam, have foiled an armed robbery attempt by suspected Mwaghavul militiamen after responding to sporadic gunfire at a residence in Ndai community, Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 27, 2026, when troops received a distress report of sporadic shooting by suspected armed robbers at the residence of Mr Kwoepnan Josiah.
The troops immediately moved to the location and established contact with the suspected criminals. The troops brought superior firepower to bear, forcing the armed robbers to flee the area in disarray.
The troops expended 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during the engagement.
There were no reports of casualties among the troops or occupants of the residence in the available report.
The incident highlights the continued threat posed by local armed criminal elements operating around vulnerable communities, particularly during nighttime hours.
Security personnel have continued to maintain patrols and rapid-response operations in the area as part of efforts to protect residents and deny criminal elements freedom of action.
