Troops of the Nigerian Army have disrupted suspected terrorists’ movement involving rustled livestock in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security sources said troops of the 8 Division Garrison responded at about 1:30 a.m. on June 4 following intelligence reports that an unspecified number of suspected terrorists were sighted around Kunawa Village moving with rustled animals.

According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised and repositioned to a possible crossing point along the Isa–Gundumi road in Isa Local Government Area, where they laid an ambush to intercept the suspects.

However, the suspected terrorists did not appear at the location during the operation.

“The troops acted on credible intelligence and moved to block the suspected withdrawal route, but no contact was made with the criminals,” the sources said.

The sources added that troops subsequently conducted domination patrols across the general area to deter criminal activities and reassure residents.

They further advised locals to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or activities linked to terrorists or cattle rustlers to security authorities.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry and terrorism-related activities in Sokoto State and its environs.
