Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on Faru Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Security sources said troops of the 1 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Faru responded to intelligence reports at about 8:30 a.m. on June 4 indicating that suspected terrorists were attacking the community.

According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the assailants in a firefight, forcing them to abandon the attack and flee.

“The troops responded promptly to the intelligence and engaged the terrorists, compelling them to retreat from the area,” the sources said.

Following the encounter, the troops pursued the fleeing suspects along their withdrawal route in an effort to prevent regrouping and inflict further pressure on the criminal elements.

However, no further contact was made with the fleeing terrorists during the exploitation operation.

The sources added that troops continued to dominate the area and maintain heightened vigilance to forestall further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.

The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace in communities affected by insecurity across Zamfara State.
