Troops Foil Terrorists’ IED Attack Along Kukawa–Cross Kauwa Road in Borno
Troops of Sector 3 of the Nigerian Army, Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted improvised explosive device (IED) attack by suspected terrorists along the Kukawa–Cross Kauwa road in Kukawa, preventing what could have disrupted movement in the area.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on May 20 when troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion, while conducting a routine patrol, encountered an IED planted along the road linking Kukawa and Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the sources, the terrorists prematurely detonated the command-operated IED after sighting the advancing troops, but the explosion failed to inflict casualties.
“The terrorists triggered the IED untimely on sighting troops and subsequently fled the area,” the source said.
No casualty was recorded during the incident, while troops reportedly maintained dominance of the axis as efforts continued to deny terrorists freedom of action in the area.
