Troops, Hunters Arrest Two Suspected ISWAP Fighters in Adamawa

Troops of the 232 Battalion, Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with local hunters, have arrested two suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 9:05 a.m. on June 1 during a security operation conducted in Garkida community.
According to the sources, the arrest followed intelligence-led efforts by troops and local security volunteers to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of links to terrorist activities in the North-East.
The sources said preliminary interrogation of the suspects yielded information regarding their alleged involvement in previous terrorist attacks.
One of the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the abduction of schoolchildren in Mussa community and in an attack on Leho village in Askira Local Government Area of Borno State.
The second suspect reportedly admitted involvement in an attack on Tellabala village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
“The suspects are currently in military custody, while further investigations are being conducted to verify the information obtained during preliminary interrogation and establish possible links to other terrorist activities,” a security source said.
The source added that the arrests represented another breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist cells and support networks operating within the region.
Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive and intelligence-driven operations against terrorist groups and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
Investigations into the activities of the suspects are ongoing.
