Troops of 1 Division have recovered 63 rustled cattle following a gun battle with suspected terrorists in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 1:30 a.m. on May 7 after troops stationed at Lakwaya and Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tsaure received credible human intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists along Jalawa village axis towards Lakwaya.
The sources disclosed that troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspects and subsequently made contact with them, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
According to the sources, the terrorists fled into nearby bushes due to superior firepower from the troops.
Troops thereafter recovered 63 cattle, one sheep, and one donkey believed to have been rustled by the fleeing criminals.
The recovered livestock are currently in military custody pending identification and further necessary action.
Security authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat cattle rustling, banditry, and other criminal activities affecting communities in the North-West.
