Troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 7, supported by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) disposal team, have recovered an emplaced IED during a clearance operation along the Kagana–Gobirawa Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Military sources disclosed that the operation was conducted at about 5:00 p.m. on June 8 as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of commuters and security personnel operating within the area.

During the route clearance exercise, troops discovered and recovered an improvised explosive device that had been planted along the road.

The timely recovery of the explosive device is believed to have averted a potential attack on road users and security personnel.

In a separate development during the operation, troops also discovered the corpse of a local vigilante within the general area.

The body was subsequently evacuated for necessary action and identification procedures.

Security agencies have commenced efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the vigilante and to identify those responsible.

Military authorities said route clearance and counter-IED operations remain critical components of ongoing efforts to deny criminal and terrorist elements the ability to disrupt movement and threaten civilian populations across Zamfara State.

Troops have continued to maintain vigilance along major supply routes and vulnerable road networks within the state.
