Security sources said the development followed an earlier operation conducted on April 21 by troops of 233 Tank Battalion in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) at Nanewa village.

According to the sources, intelligence later confirmed that one of the terrorists neutralised during the encounter was a commander identified as Abu Jarir, a member of the ISWAP Shura Council.
