Troops repel terrorists’ attack in Tsafe, several attackers reportedly wounded

TSafe, Zamfara State — Troops have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, with several of the attackers reportedly wounded during the encounter.
The incident occurred on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, in a mountainous area around the outskirts of Tsafe, along the route from Magazu towards Kwanoni.
Sources said the attackers launched the assault at about 2:20 p.m., triggering a prolonged exchange of gunfire that lasted until around 3:54 p.m.
The troops responded to the attack and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding forest and rocky terrain.
Sources in the area said some of the terrorists were wounded during the confrontation, while there were also unconfirmed reports that some may have been killed.
Security personnel were said to be consolidating their positions in the area while efforts were ongoing to establish the exact casualties suffered by the attackers.
