Troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion have rescued an internally displaced person (IDP) who escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains after being abducted during an attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the victim was rescued at about 3:02 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2026, when troops conducting a standard patrol in the Alfa Company area of Gwoza sighted him ahead of their position.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim is an indigene of Ngoshe who was abducted during a terrorist attack on the community on March 3, 2026.
The source said the victim had escaped from the Gava terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains before encountering the troops.
He was subsequently handed over to officials of the Pulka IDP Camp for necessary assistance and further processing.
The development highlights the continued efforts by troops operating in the North-East to locate and rescue persons abducted by terrorist groups and facilitate their safe return to civilian authorities.
