Vigilantes have foiled an attempted terrorist attack on Nanu village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, forcing the armed assailants to retreat after an encounter that left one of them dead.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2026, when troops of 22 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaiama responded to reports of armed terrorists attempting to attack the community.

The prompt intervention of local vigilantes reportedly disrupted the attackers' advance and forced them to withdraw.

One of the suspected terrorists was neutralised during the encounter.

The response prevented the assailants from carrying out their planned attack on the community.

The incident underscores the importance of community-based intelligence and collaboration between local vigilantes and conventional security forces in confronting armed groups and protecting vulnerable communities.

Troops are expected to sustain security operations in the area to prevent further attacks and track down fleeing elements.
