Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday met with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate security and the restoration of normalcy across the state.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, formed part of the governor’s routine engagements with the Service Chiefs on security matters and the continued stabilisation of communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Although details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed, the meeting is understood to have centred on security operations in Borno and measures to sustain the gains recorded in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
Security and the restoration of normalcy remain key priorities of the Zulum administration, which has continued to provide logistics, equipment and other forms of support to the military and security agencies operating in the state.
The state government’s support has been directed towards strengthening operational capacity and creating conditions for the safe return of displaced residents, reopening of communities and resumption of socio-economic activities.
The military has continued to sustain offensive operations against remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in different parts of Borno, with troops conducting intelligence-led operations to disrupt terrorist networks, logistics and freedom of movement.
The governor’s engagement with the Army leadership comes as security agencies continue efforts to consolidate the progress made in several parts of the state and prevent terrorist elements from regrouping.
Zulum was accompanied to the meeting by the Senator representing Borno South, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume; member representing Kukawa, Mobbar, Guzamala and Abadam Federal Constituency, Hon. Malam Gana Bukar Kareto; Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Lawan Umar Dalorima; and Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Maina Yaumi.
The meeting further underscores the continued coordination between the Borno State Government and the Nigerian Army in supporting security operations and the broader effort to restore lasting stability across the North-East.
