Ibrahim Mittiri of Mittiri Village in Yobe State has allegedly confessed to falsely accusing a local hunter, Aji Ibrahim, of being a Boko Haram member over a lingering personal dispute that lasted about seven years.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident started on May 24 when Mittiri allegedly informed Umar Abdullahi, popularly known as Gajeri, that Aji Ibrahim was a member of the insurgent group.
The allegation was reportedly passed through troops of Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai, leading to the arrest of the hunter by security operatives.
However, during preliminary investigation, authorities reportedly discovered that the accusation was linked to a long-standing disagreement between Mittiri and Aji Ibrahim, a matter said to still be pending before a court.
Sources said Mittiri later admitted during interrogation that the allegation was fabricated and driven by personal grievances arising from the prolonged dispute.
He allegedly confessed that his intention was to ensure the arrest of Aji Ibrahim and expose him to possible execution by security forces.
Investigations further revealed that Mittiri and Umar Abdullahi had allegedly been operating as informants for local security and hunters’ groups and were receiving monthly stipends for intelligence gathering.
According to the sources, the duo initially received N10,000 monthly before the payment was allegedly increased to N30,000 by a hunters’ group commander identified as Idrissa Buba.
The sources added that Umar Abdullahi had earlier been investigated in connection with a similar allegation in 2026 and was detained for about two months before he was later released.
The suspects have been arrested and would be handed to the relevant authorities for false accusations.
