Armed bandits suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group launched a large-scale attack on Alela village in Sokoto State on May 23, setting houses ablaze and rustling an unspecified number of livestock.

The attack occurred at about 7:00 p.m., with the assailants reportedly numbering in their hundreds and riding on approximately 50 motorcycles.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits stormed the village in a coordinated assault, firing sporadically to scare residents before burning down several homes and fleeing with domestic animals.

Security operatives have been mobilized to the area and efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers.
