Security forces intervene in Benue over cattle killing, avert reprisal attack

Security forces in Benue have intervened in a potential crisis following the killing of cattle by suspected youths in Aliade area of the state.
Security sources said the the security forces received information on April 3 that some youths allegedly attacked herders, killed their cattle and shared the meat among themselves.
The sources disclosed that the development led to rising tension, as the affected herders were reportedly threatening retaliatory action.
According to the police, a patrol team, in collaboration with Operation Anyam Nyor, was immediately mobilised to the area to forestall escalation and restore calm.
The team has also commenced a search operation to identify and arrest those responsible, as well as recover exhibits linked to the incident.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has since taken over the case for further investigation.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to prevent breakdown of law and order and maintain peace in the area.
