Update: 11 killed, houses razed in Nasarawa communal clash

Eleven persons have been killed and scores of houses destroyed following a communal clash in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

 

The Police confirmed that  the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on April 3 when suspected hoodlums attacked Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen.

 

Police sources identified the victims as Iliya Audu Edeh, Abdussalam Obula Egeh, Abdullahi Adakiri, Salihu Haruna, Mohammed Haruna Onarigu, Salihu Akuki, Abdullahi Owuna, and Ogo Usman, all of Udege Kasa; Ogo Okadamu of Akyawa; Oso’ada of Shatta village; and Musa Amushe of Udeni Gida.

 

The sources disclosed that about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa, while two houses were also set ablaze in Udege Kasa during the violence.

 

According to sources, troops of the Nigerian Army and other security personnel, including conventional police, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes, have been reinforced in the area to restore normalcy.

 

The Commissioner of Police in the state visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, while calm has since been restored.

 

The command said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators, as investigations into the incident continue.
