Troops of 17 Brigade, in collaboration with police operatives and local vigilantes, have recovered six motorcycles following an encounter with suspected terrorists in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on May 19 when troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Malumfashi, alongside other security personnel, conducted a fighting patrol around Yamama village.
During the patrol, the troops reportedly sighted suspected terrorists operating within the area and immediately engaged them.
The terrorists were said to have fled towards the Gora general area, prompting a pursuit by the troops.
However, movement was reportedly hindered by difficult terrain, which limited further advance of the patrol team.
Despite the limitation, troops engaged the fleeing suspects with long-range weapons and subsequently exploited the general area.
During the follow-up sweep, six motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects were recovered.
Security sources said operations had been intensified in the area to locate the fleeing elements and deny terrorist groups freedom of action within Malumfashi and adjoining communities.
