Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled separate terrorist activities in Maru and Anka Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, forcing the attackers to retreat during swift military responses.
Security sources said the first incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on July 10 when troops of the 1 Brigade, supported by Combat Team 4 and deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mayanchi, responded to reports of a terrorist attack at Garagin Sarkin Yaki community in Maru Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the troops arrived at the scene, but the attackers had fled upon sighting the advancing soldiers, and no contact was established.
In a related operation about nine minutes later, troops of the 1 Brigade deployed at FOB Anka responded to a distress call reporting the movement of armed terrorists along the Anka–Gummi road in Anka Local Government Area.
The troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a firefight, forcing the assailants to retreat into the surrounding area.
During the exchange of fire, one soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated to the Anka General Hospital for medical treatment.
The military said troops are maintaining offensive operations in the area to deny terrorists freedom of movement and protect communities across Zamfara State.
