Guards Brigade Nigerian Army conducts ambush and anti-ambush field training exercise

The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has successfully concluded a two-day Field Training Exercise (FTX) focused on ambush and anti-ambush operations, aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of troops.
The exercise, held from Oct. 13 to 14, 2025, featured a lecture segment at the 176 Guards Battalion Training Hall, General OA Azazi Barracks, Gwagwalada, followed by practical drills along Road Rafin Zurfi – Ibua.
Commander, Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the Commanding Officer of 176 Guards Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Oladimeji Ajongbo, for organizing the exercise. Brigadier General Onasanya noted that the training aligned with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede’s philosophy of continuous troop development to enhance operational efficiency and tackle emerging security threats within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states.
During the practical phase, troops demonstrated tactical deployment, engagement techniques, and immediate counter-ambush drills. An interactive session followed, allowing participants to seek clarifications and deepen their understanding of ambush operations.
The FTX concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to Army Headquarters representatives, instructors, and participants in recognition of their contributions. The exercise highlighted the Brigade’s commitment to excellence in training and professionalism.
