Troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, under Operation Enduring Peace have foiled a potential communal clash between suspected Fulani and Mwaghavul militias in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 5:25 p.m. on Aug. 6 following reports of gunfire along the river separating Gaude and Aloghom villages.
On arrival at the scene, the troops discovered that armed members of the rival groups had engaged in an exchange of gunfire.
The sources said the suspected Fulani and Mwaghavul militias immediately withdrew from the area and dispersed in different directions upon sighting the advancing troops, preventing the confrontation from escalating further.
Following the intervention, security personnel established dominance in the area and commenced confidence-building measures to restore calm.
Security sources said efforts are ongoing in collaboration with community leaders from both sides to de-escalate tensions and prevent any retaliatory attacks.
The sources added that Operation Enduring Peace has maintained a strong security presence in the area as part of measures to preserve peace and forestall further violence in the affected communities.
