Troops Recover Body of Missing Farmer in Plateau’s Bassa

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have recovered the body of a 61-year-old farmer who was reported missing in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident came to light at about 9:00 a.m. on July 31, when troops of Sector 3 OPEP responded to a report that Mr. Bulus, 61, had gone missing from Ancha Village.
According to the sources, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had travelled to Miango Market on July 30 but failed to return home.
Further inquiries indicated that while returning from the market, he stopped along the road to inspect his farm before he disappeared.
Troops, working alongside local residents, immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation across the surrounding area.
During the search, the team discovered the victim’s body in a bush close to his farmland. The corpse bore multiple machete cuts, suggesting he was attacked before being abandoned at the scene.
The body was recovered by family members for burial.
Security sources said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible, while troops have intensified patrols in the area to prevent further attacks.
The incident is one of several violent attacks recorded in parts of Bassa Local Government Area, where Operation Enduring Peace has sustained security operations aimed at protecting farming communities and maintaining stability.
